Teaching Literature on Line

Rosina Neginsky, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

The purpose of this paper is to explain different delivery systems and a particular organization of material in the teaching of comparative literature, including Russian literature in translation. I will describe in detail the use of the VCI interface, developed by the College of Agriculture at the University of Illinois, for on line learning. My paper will explain the particularity of the interface, its advantages and disadvantages, how the material is delivered through the use of the on line study guides; how assignments are submitted by the students with a Lesson Submission Form; and how the instructor delivers his evaluation using a lesson return form). The paper will also explain the overall particularities of teaching literature on line, and the advantages, disadvantages, and future perspectives of this medium.
