Post-Doc Research Associate

The Sandi Port Errant Language and Culture Learning Center (LCLC) at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a post-doctoral research associate in the Digital Humanities, starting July 15, 2015. Initial appointment for two years renewable for up to three additional years. Candidates must have completed the Ph.D. between 2013 and July 15, 2015. The postdoc is a full-time 9-month salaried position with a salary of $37,500, access to $2000 in research funds, and full benefits.

We seek a creative and organized postdoctoral research associate whose research project will mesh with the mission of the Language and Culture Learning Center: helping faculty find and integrate technology into foreign language, literature, and culture classes. We welcome applications from energetic and focused scholars whose past experience and planned research projects engage with teaching with technology in the fields of foreign language, literature, and culture.

Duties:
The postdoctoral research associate will collaborate with the Director of the LCLC on: teaching and curriculum development for the departments in the School of Literatures, Cultural Studies and Linguistics (LCSL); developing and leading workshops on teaching and learning with technology; conducting empirical research in collaboration with faculty from foreign language departments to assess the effectiveness of teaching and learning materials; identifying and evaluating emerging technologies to enhance language learning; collaborating with the Digital Humanities Working Group at UIC and other centers nationally on the development and dissemination of computer-mediated learning modules; identifying grants and collaborating on grant applications; presenting and/or participating in local and national conferences; supervising and training LCLC graduate student research assistants; carrying out other tasks as needed for the maintenance of the LCLC.

Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in one of the following: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, or a related field, and have college-level teaching experience in at least one of these languages. Candidates who do not hold a Ph.D. in one of the above languages must have an M.A. in one of these languages.
