The United Nations Language and Communications Programme in New York is seeking part-time Russian instructors.
The selected candidate(s) will be hired as external consultants to teach Russian at the offices of the United Nations in New York (Midtown). We offer a competitive hourly rate and a chance to work in a unique cultural and learning environment.
Part-time instructors are responsible for:
- teaching language courses to UN staff members and diplomats (classes meet 3 hours per week for 12 weeks per term)
- timely completion of all administrative tasks related to the organization and management of courses
- creating, proctoring, and correcting assessments and exams
- cooperating with fellow teachers in teaching-related tasks
- participating in program meetings and logistical activities
Applicants must:
- have native or near-native proficiency in Russian
- have at least a Master's Degree (or equivalent) in Russian Language & Literature, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Teaching or a related field
- have at least 3 years of experience in teaching Russian to adults
- have received specific training for teaching Russian as a second language
- reside in the metropolitan area of the city of New York and hold either a U.S. passport or a green card
- be available to teach 3-6 hours a week -- either during the day (12-3 pm) or evenings (5-7 pm) and mornings (8-10 am)
Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- excellent communication skills
- high level of comfort using technology in and outside of the classroom
- high standards in the core values of the Organization: integrity, professionalism, respect for diversity
- excellent proficiency in English or French

The deadline for applications is February 5, 2016. Preliminary interviews will be conducted via Skype in late January-early February. Selected candidates will be invited to give a demo class at the UN in early to mid- February.
