Assistant Professor of Russian, Tenure Track

The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Delaware invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Russian, Tenure Track, for a 1 September 2019 start date. The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Russian language, literature or culture, with a strong commitment to teaching, program administration and interdisciplinary research. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates whose research focuses on contemporary Russian literature and culture, and one or more of the following areas: film, visual arts, cultural studies, gender studies, environmental humanities, medical humanities or digital humanities.

Candidates must have a PhD in Russian (in hand), a proven record of excellence in teaching, native or near-native fluency in both English and Russian, and an existing or emerging record of strong scholarship. Ideal candidate will be called to provide leadership and vision for building the Russian program at UD. Academic responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses (from beginner to advanced), leading independent study courses and developing innovative, interdisciplinary, topical courses (e.g. courses focusing on gender, technology and society, human rights, etc.). Dynamic teaching skills will be essential. Sharing in departmental administration will be expected. Anticipated teaching load: 5 courses per year. An interest in developing and directing study abroad programs for Russian is highly desirable.
