Assistant Professor of Russian

The Department of World Languages and Literatures invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Russian to begin September 16, 2016.

The candidate should show evidence of strong scholarship and a background in Russian language, literature and culture. The new Assistant Professor will join tenured colleagues, non-tenure-track instructors, and graduate teaching assistants in teaching Russian, will develop and teach courses in his/her field of expertise at all levels, and will advise Russian majors, minors and certificate students. Members of the department are expected to participate in the governance of the department, college and the university, to be active in teaching and in community outreach and to be productive scholars within their own area of academic interest.

Duties and Responsibilities

       * Teach language, literature, film and culture courses across a broad spectrum at all levels, from beginning to graduate (Master’s), including literature in translation and interdisciplinary general education courses;
       * Advise Russian majors, minors and certificate students;
       * Make scholarly contributions to research field;
       * Provide service to the department, college and university, and supporting community partnerships;
       * Write grant applications;
       * Take an active role in extracurricular student activities and the Russian Flagship Program;

Required Qualifications

        * Ph.D. in Russian, Slavic, comparative literature or closely related field, in hand at time of employment;
        * Native or near-native fluency in Russian and English;
        * Evidence of scholarly potential;
        * Experience in teaching college-level Russian language and/or literature;
        * Familiarity with proficiency-oriented language instruction;
        * Strong commitment to teaching and scholarship;

Compensation

Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package that currently includes 95% healthcare; a generous retirement package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or one dependant at any of the Oregon University System schools.
