Instructor of Russian

Virginia Tech - Blacksburg, VA

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech invites applications for a full-time instructor of Russian position to begin August 10, 2020. The initial appointment will be for 3 years. 4/4 teaching load. Priority will be given to applicants able to teach Kazakh language and culture.

Requirements include: 1) MA or equivalent by time of appointment in Russian language, literature, culture, language pedagogy, second language acquisition, or related field; 2) evidence of successful teaching of Russian at a US university; 3) commitment to proficiency-based and communicative approaches to teaching language. 4) Native or near-native proficiency in Russian and English.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal background check. Occasional travel to national conferences may be required.

Preferred qualifications: ability to teach Kazakh language and culture; experience teaching intensive language courses; experience in second language proficiency testing and assessment (such as ACTFL training/certification); ability to teach all levels of Russian language; experience in study abroad; willingness to participate in co-curricular activities.
