Lecturer in Russian Language and Literature

The Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures at The University of Iowa announces an opening for a full-time lecturer position in Russian to begin in August 2019. The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possible reappointment of up to two additional years, and the position will be renewable thereafter in three-year increments, pending collegiate approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities include: teaching three classes (up to 12 credit hours) per semester from lower to upper level language courses including rotation of a Russian literature, culture, or translation courses and assisting the Russian program coordinator with curricular development.

Required Qualifications: PhD in Russian Language and Literature, PhD in Second Language Acquisition with focus on Russian Language and Linguistics, or an MFA in Literary Translation with an emphasis in Russian Literature; native or near-native fluency in Russian and English; extensive experience in teaching Russian at the college/university level in North America.

Desirable Qualifications: Experience teaching courses in the translation of Russian literary texts, published translations of Russian literary texts to English, and experience in organizing academic and cultural activities.
