Postdoctoral Teacher-Scholar of Russian Literature and Culture

The George Mason University, Department of Modern and Classical Languages, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Teacher-Scholar of Russian Literature and Culture, beginning Fall 2020. Candidates will have an active research and publication agenda focused on one or more of the following areas: Post-Soviet Russian literature, nineteenth and twentieth century Russian literature, Russian and (Post-) Soviet film, and cultural studies.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses in both English translation and in Russian; courses in translation include those on major Russian writers, survey courses of nineteenth and twentieth century Russian literature, and Russian civilization; courses taught in Russian include Russian poetry and contemporary short fiction. Twelve-month appointment and 2/2 teaching load. Position is renewable for up to three years.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment, university-level teaching experience, and native or near-native fluency in Russian. Strong commitment to undergraduate teaching is essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to teach a course on the cultural contributions of Russian and Soviet immigrants to the U.S. is a plus.
