Visiting Assistant Professor in Russian Area Studies

The Russian Area Studies program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor (leave replacement) position beginning July 1, 2019. The VAP will teach four courses (two per semester; normal load is 3:2) and the position is benefits eligible.

We seek an individual with expertise in any area of Russian cultural studies. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to teach intermediate and advanced Russian language, as well as Russian culture courses taught in English. Demonstrated initiative to participate in extracurricular activities is highly desired. We particularly welcome applications from candidates who can offer a course on Russian culture through historical documents.

Familiarity with work at small liberal arts institutions is highly desirable. Appointment will only be made at the Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor rank.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Russian literature or Russian studies or be ABD at time of application and have native or near-native fluency in both Russian and English. Recent Ph.D. recipients and candidates from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
