Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian

Stetson University - DeLand, FL

Stetson University seeks a dynamic colleague trained in Russian language pedagogy for a full-time, non-tenure-track appointment as a visiting assistant professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures beginning January 2017. This is a three-semester appointment. The successful candidate will be devoted to teaching undergraduate students and will have a demonstrated ability to teach Russian language courses at all levels.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Ph.D. in Russian Language or a related field. Candidates with all course requirements for the Ph.D. completed will be considered. Native or near-native fluency in Russian is required. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to liberal learning at an undergraduate institution and will show demonstrated excellence in teaching using a variety of methodologies, including teaching through blended learning technologies. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and who have demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students from under-represented groups.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The teaching load is four undergraduate courses per fall and spring semester. Qualified candidates are expected to teach Russian language from the introductory to advanced levels, with the possibility of courses in the candidate’s research field(s). The ideal candidate will join a robust program in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies and will be expected to participate in co-curricular programming
(www.stetson.edu/sprees). This position also includes supervision of the Language Commons, a study and tutoring facility connected with the Department of World Languages and Cultures.
