Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian

The Department of Russian Language, Literature, and Culture at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year, beginning July 2022, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian.

Founded in 1833, Oberlin is a private four-year, selective liberal arts college near Cleveland, Ohio and is also home to an outstanding Conservatory of Music. Responsibilities
The incumbent will teach a total of five courses, including Russian language courses at either the introductory or intermediate level, and topical courses in English and Russian, including in a First-Year Seminar, a larger 200-level course open to a broad audience, and a senior seminar taught in Russian. The incumbent will also participate in and contribute to a range of activities outside the classroom sponsored by the Russian Department and Russian and East European Studies.

Qualifications
We seek an original scholar and dynamic, innovative teacher who will engage with students both inside and outside the classroom, who will generate excitement about learning Russian, and who will attract a broad audience to literature and culture courses taught in English. Expertise in 19th-century Russian literature and culture is desirable. We especially welcome applications from candidates who can teach across different periods and who have well-developed interdisciplinary interests (including but not limited to environmental studies, food studies, gender studies, comparative literature, translation studies, cinema and media studies, the visual arts, performance). Among the qualifications required for appointment are the Ph.D degree in hand or expected by summer 2022, and native or near-native Russian and English. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Compensation
Within the range established for this position, salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
