Associate Professor/Professor of Russian

Bowdoin College - Brunswick, ME

Bowdoin College invites nominations and applications for a senior appointment in Russian language, literature, and culture, to begin July 1, 2016. The appointment will be made at the level of tenured associate or full professor commensurate with experience. The area of specialization is open; however, candidates should note that the College values interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching and supports a number of interdisciplinary academic programs.

Bowdoin recently received a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support an innovative, collaborative pilot project with the Slavic Department at Yale University. The successful candidate will contribute to the leadership of this project. Candidates should demonstrate notable scholarly achievement, a creative research agenda, and a strong commitment to teaching in a diverse liberal arts community.

Native or near-native fluency in Russian and English, the ability to and interest in teaching all levels of Russian language, and a strong background in language pedagogy and program building are expected. In addition to chairing the Russian Department, the successful candidate will teach two courses per semester, advise students, and supervise honors and independent studies.
