Position Description

The University of Virginia Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures invites applications for an Assistant Professor on the academic general faculty (teaching track). The anticipated start date is August 25, 2024. This is a three-year, tenure-ineligible teaching appointment with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon available funding, satisfactory performance, and need for the position. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester in Russian language.


Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching. A PhD in Slavic or a related field is required, as is native or near-native fluency in both Russian and English. Experience mentoring students and experience teaching Russian language at a North American institution of higher education are both strongly preferred.
