Position Description

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago is conducting an open-rank search to fill a tenure-track position in literary/cultural studies to begin July 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. We invite applications from scholars who are open to critical reorientation in our field, and who approach our region with a transnational view of its literatures and cultures. We especially encourage applications from candidates whose areas of interest include one or more of the following: environmental and post-colonial perspectives; creative practice; pre-1840s literature and culture; historically under-represented Slavic, East European and Eurasian cultures. The selected candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor commensurate with experience and qualifications. The position includes research progress, a standard teaching load of four courses per year at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as usual advising and service requirements.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

A record of research and publications in leading venues in their field, or the potential to develop such a record;
A demonstrated record of excellent teaching and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students or the potential to excel in these areas;
the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students with diverse backgrounds and interests;
the ability to help build the program.
