Project Global Officer, Intensive Summer Language school in beginning Russian at Lewis University, Illinois.

Positions’ start and end dates: June 10 – August 3, 2024


Two positions are available that can be combined. Both positions are on the campus, i.e., the job is not remote, and are for summer 2024 only. Full board and lodgings are provided. Positions will remain open until filled.

Sponsored by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) at the U.S. Department of Defense, Project GO is a collaborative initiative that promotes critical language education for Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students. Lewis University Project GO summer school is conducted on its Romeoville campus about 40 minutes south of Chicago.

Position #1: Russian Language Immersion Instructor
Our unique 8-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. Our instructors provide up to five hours of classroom instruction daily based on the pre-existing instructional materials and PPT.

The successful candidate will teach Beginning Russian course to college undergraduates, ROTC cadets, from M to F, 5 hours a day

Minimum requirements of the candidates are:
1. Master's degree in an appropriate field or equivalent (BA considered)
2. Native or near-native proficiency in Russian
3. Eligible for employment in the U.S.

Desirable Characteristics:
- experience in teaching university undergraduates
- experience teaching intensive Russian courses
- training in language pedagogy and familiarity with proficiency standards and testing
- training in ACTFL OPI testing
Salary: $6,000

Position#2: Summer Language School Cultural Lead
This position entails actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing, and recreating with students while reading, writing, and speaking in Russian. Full-time on-campus residence is required for the duration of the summer program.

Minimum requirements of the candidates are:
1. BA’s degree or equivalent
2. Native or near-native proficiency in Russian
3. Eligible for employment in the U.S.

The successful candidate will

- work with the Program Coordinator to plan, develop, a balanced schedule of afternoon and evening activities, cultural weekend tours, and picnics related to the target culture (lectures, cooking and other clubs, movies, Russian language games etc.)
- accompany students on cultural weekend trips and any other outings,
- oversee activities as they proceed
- be flexible with work schedule; working some long hours, as needed, to cover important events
- demonstrate strong leadership skills and develop appropriate positive relationships with all students
- speak the target language with participants and staff members as much as possible.
Full-time on-campus residence is required for the duration of the summer program.

Desirable characteristics:
- leadership experience supervising, managing, and training others
- skills in the target culture (e.g., music, arts, sports, cooking related to the target culture)

Salary: $5,000
