Term Instructor of Russian Language and Area Studies - PT

The Department of Russian Language and Area Studies at St. Olaf College invites applications for a part-time, three-course position to contribute to our English language offerings on Russia at the level of Visiting Instructor or Assistant Professor to begin August 2024.

The successful candidate will teach a Russian Studies topics course in the fall semester and two additional courses, currently scheduled for January term and spring semester but timing is negotiable. Disciplinary expertise within Russian studies includes art history, economics, environmental studies, gender studies, film, linguistics, literature, music history, philosophy, political science, race and ethnic studies, religion, and theater.

Qualifications
A terminal degree in the relevant discipline (PhD or MFA) is required although ABD will be considered. For persons whose abilities, while not necessarily reflecting the normative academic qualifications usually sought by the college, but who offer distinctive experience, expertise, or achievement that would enhance the college's educational aims, evidence of distinctive experience or achievement is required.

About the Department
The Russian Language and Area Studies Department is an interdisciplinary department, with one full-time Russian Language specialist and one part-time position in addition to faculty in other departments at the college who contribute courses to the major. The department is committed to building and maintaining strong relationships with students by supporting activities organized by the Russian House as well as the Russian Language Table.
